Battered Woman's Prayer
~Poetry by my mother, nicknamed Scarlet Lace
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
If he should hurt me before the night is through
I pray the lord will pull me through
Keep my little secret safe
So in this world I will always have a place
May my loved ones hold their heads high
and may I always keep my pride
Scared to leave and scared to stay
That is the life I've chose this day
I know with you my heart will always lie
So I am ready if it's my time to die
Regardless of the night's events
I know my life has been well spent
So at last I say goodnight
and pray that you will end this fight

Hello! My mother wrote this prayer because she is a domestic violence survivor. If there are any other survivors out there, make yourself known! Share your stories! They can really help someone see the signs of an abusive partner. I thought this prayer was powerful and published it here with my mother's permission. I hope someone can relate to this and hope that it may help other domestic violence survivors realize they are not alone.
